The foundation for a child’s communication skills develops in their first six years of life - before they even go to Kindergarten.
Parents reading with their children is a key part of developing that foundation, and research shows that a strong foundation will have a lasting positive impact for the rest of a person’s life.
“Literacy reaches beyond reading and writing,” said Laurie Fagan, executive director for Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre. “Literacy skills affect a person’s ability to finish high school and university, hold down a job, and care for their mental and physical health.”
Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre provides free books to participants, to encourage families to read together at home. However, our participants love reading so much, we are running out of books to give away!
From October 1 – 31, we are collecting donations of gently used or new children’s books.
Donations can be dropped off at Norwood Child and Family Resource Center, Monday to Friday from 9am – 5pm, at 9516 - 114 Avenue NW.
See other drop off locations here.
If you would like to donate a new book, but don’t know which book to buy visit our Amazon Wishlist.
To make a monetary donation please send an e-transfer to payment@norwoodcentre.com or Donate Now!
