The time has come for our 2012 United Way Campaign.
                                           This year, our goal is
$8000.00!

                                                         Why United Way?

· Organizations, businesses, governments, community members and more than 50 partners collaborate for change - no other community organization does this

· Each and every contribution targets difficult and complex issues -
donations and support go farther and wider than any other charitable investment

· United Way focuses on the areas that need change the most

To see how you can participate, watch for posted information through out the Centre.

 Do it Yourself Bubbles

1 tbsp glycerine

2 tbsp dish soap

9 oz water

Miix it all up

Pour into small plastic bottles or a pie pan, grab your favourite wand and enjoy big beautiful bubbles.

Popsicle Eating Contest

There are so many variations on a theme for this low tech, low cost family activity. The most obvious contest is to see who can take the longest time to eat a popsicle. There is another activity in which the entire family can participate. The “eating your popsicle the slowest”context takes not only patience, but the ability to withstand turning into a sticky, streaked mess while the popsicle melts.

Thank You!

Getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of our ever-changing world seems to happen each year whether we mean for it to or not. I think it is important to remind ourselves and others to slow down, take a step back, and look at what is really important. I mean really important. Is it the 7:00pm meeting, or is it eating dinner at the table with your family and hearing about how your daughter stood up for someone at school who was being bullied? Is it replying to a text message, or is it seeing the look on your son's face after he scores his first goal? Is it wanting to get the point across that you are annoyed or angry so you decide not to say, "I love you" to someone important, or is it choosing to say "I love you" because you never know what the day will bring?

Regardless, our family and friends are what make this world. Great grandparents, grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles have helped make us who we are and our world what it is, and our children will help make us better and our world what it will become. Make the time to spend with the important people in your life; parents, friends, grandparents, children, coworkers, whoever it is, make the time...you never know when this may be your last resolution.

10 things to do with someone who means something to you:

1) Create a time capsule or memories box
2) Watch a movie
3) Cook a meal/bake together
4) Sit outside and look at the stars
5) Do a puzzle
6) Go on a road trip
7) Swing on the swings
8) Dance
9) Paint
each others hand. Press on 1 piece of paper, frame when dry and hang in your home
10) Have a photo session

It's official!

Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre has surpassed its 2011 United Way Campaign Goal of $5000.00.

Am I surprised? Not really. I mean, every year for the past three or four years I have increased our goal, and every year staff do whatever it takes to meet or exceed that goal. They understand the importance of the United Way and will do whatever it takes to make any type of investment.

Am I proud and overjoyed? Absolutely. Initially raising the goal I thought, “we are a staff of 35, how much more can we contribute?” Well, Norwood is not an Agency to be underestimated! Every year that the goal has been increased, we meet or exceed that goal. This is HUGE considering every year we have a handful of new/er staff, but every year we all continue to learn more about how our investments make a difference as well as gain a better understanding of the United Way and its purpose.

To realize that people’s lives, or your own life for that matter, can change in an instant is scary. However, to know that if you reach out, somewhere within the city, there is someone, some place, that can offer you the support you need is amazing. How great it is to be a part of the CHANGE.

Final 2011 United Way Investment:
$7546.70

Wow! This video is extremely different from years past. Rather than becoming an emotional disaster, I smiled. I felt good. I started grooving in my seat! I was impressed and inspired. What a positive video with a personal touch. Be prepared to have this song stuck in your head!
Watching this video, you see hope, love, and success. Listening to the lyrics, hearing that you can be the change in someone's life, knowing,
Change Starts Here...Change Starts With You.

Is skateboarding a bad influence? Answer: Skateboarding is only as bad of an influence as you want it to be. Skateboarding itself is not a bad influence at all - in fact, it's a very good influence! Skateboarding keeps kids active, teaches them to set and achieve goals, challenges them - there are a lot of reasons that skateboarding by itself is a very good influence.

Top 6 reasons to skateboard:

1. To try something new
2. To keep fit
3. To make friends
4. To learn perseverance
5. To build confidence
6. To have fun!
